The IGDA Student SIG is hosting a session at the 2018 Game Developers Conference. It’s thanks to the IGDA’s partnership with GDC that we are able to host events like this.

Date: Friday, March 23rd.
Time: 10:00AM – 11:00AM
Location: South Hall, Street Level – Room 104

Description: Local game development clubs play an important role in helping students prepare for their careers in the games industry. At this roundtable, club leaders and academics will share tips with each other on how to run better student communities at their school, college, university, or other educational institution. This session is organized by the IGDA Student SIG, which manages the Academic Chapter program for the IGDA. Over the last several years, we’ve worked with dozens of student organizations to help them overcome common problems and challenges that many groups run into. These groups have achieved a great deal of success, often becoming the main hub of game development activity in their entire city or region. This is a great opportunity to learn from them and their experience. You’ll come away from this session feeling empowered to build a strong, student-run, game developer community at your school.

Additional Info

This session is part of GDC’s Advocacy Track, which means that you can attend it if you have any GDC pass. And because it’s on Friday, it means that people with Student passes can also attend.

Unfortunately, you cannot attend this event without paying for a GDC pass, but we will take notes of what was discuss and publish it as an article on the IGDA website. Unlike other GDC sessions, roundtables are not recorded or published onto GDC Vault.

Much like our virtual roundtable events, this event will be a guided discussion, where the audience is encouraged to participate.
